Turtle Reef is a tablet application designed to encourage children aged 6-8 to learn about marine biology and ecology, engage in artistic expression, share their experiences with engaged family and peers, and get a chance to put prosocial lessons into practice.

We met two children and their fathers in a “pair session” at family-friendly restaurant, where all parties could feel at ease and well fed, with children roaming freely as would not be permitted in a more formal establishment. We observed Laura (age 7) and James (age 6) playing 2 children’s applications (“apps”) for use on mobile touchscreen devices (iPads).

Additionally, we interviewed the kids' fathers to gain insight into the kids interactions with the mobile devices and their opinion as parents on the growing presence of digital media in the lives of kids.
